Brain Candy

I believe that popular culture is making people smarter. Now, television is always improving and expanding in the world. Almost everyone has a tv in their home. TV’s are more interesting and more comfortable to use than a book because it is convenient, easy to use, and more exciting. Comparing the visualization of TV’s and books, I’d say TV all the way because of the sound effects, the colorful images, and the excitement. Video games are for sure makes people smarter because it helps with hand-eye coordination, mental quickness, and fast reaction. All these factors do help people become smarter because it develops the brain. I am better in social activities, learning, and almost everything when my heart is pumped so my brain is thinking faster and I get these results when I do sports or playing games. I don’t just play games because it helps me but it decreases my stress level. I don’t know if its true to other people but it is for me. My parents are always telling me that I play too much but it is because I don’t want the stress in me. It feels like my shoulders are heavy. Music is another way that makes people smarter. Almost every person in school has a music player. I believe music quickens the mind because of the rhythm of the music or the beat and the pace of the singing. The right music also makes the listener happier and more confidence in themselves.

Is dance more important than school?

Everybody has something they like to do. It’s no use forcing a kid to learn when they aren’t interested, the learning won’t sink in for a girl who needs to move in order to think. Dance would be more important to her than school. I could feel what it is like to be constantly moving and cannot pay attention to class even if I tried. I’d find another way where I could learn. I would switch to dance school if I was her because it is where her potential and talents lie.

No, I think school helps you bring out your creativity because school is like a test to see what a person likes. That is why we are all in school learning. I don’t really like school because of the homework but I need to go to school because I want a career where I will earn a lot of money in the future. I am doing this to help remodel my grandparents’ company in Hong Kong. I want it to look nice and have the feel of fresh air when you step through the doors. My other purposes are to use the money to take care of my parents when they are old, marriage, and future family. Also, one last purpose is to buy the things I want.

I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote. Emerson’s quote is similar to my life’s principle. In the future, I will need to rely on myself most of the time to carry on in life. A man’s got to do what he needs to do. Ideas from others are always a bonus but if it doesn’t sound right to me then I don’t have to agree to it. I need to think for what’s right and what’s wrong. It would be impossible to live my whole life when people are making decisions for me.

Teachers are there to guide students to their career. My teachers have told me that I have great potential in physics and should focus more on it. On most of my quizzes and tests I’ve had at least 88% and up grade. I have some interest in physics but I think it is not what I want to become an expert on. I am actually more interested in technology and computers. Even though technology and science are related I feel connected to technology more than science. That is why I choose technology over science.

Family affects a kid socially, mentally, and physically. My relatives have always tried to get me to become a person who is brilliant in every way and most of them always lectured me about it. But I am not a person who is going to be a superhuman. I can try but it will be pretty impossible. Everyone on the planet has a weakness. Even a bully who looks tough and buff can be scared of rats. See what I mean. All these years they’ve been going at it and it hasn’t really helped me at all in life. They’ve told me about it but never really showed me and I’ve never really got the opportunity to prove to them that everyone has their own style of living life.

Friends are there to help you out in school and life. My friends have told me to put all my A grade work into my portfolio. I did that and also added some B+ work into it. They said it isn’t that good to put in because it wasn’t a 90%+ work but I think it was a work of art. I skipped sports just to spend time putting effort in it. There is the saying “Money can’t bring all the happiness” and I think my story fits well into this quote. Even thought it was B grade work, I still valued it because it meant something to me and no other person will ever understand except myself.

A man’s got to do what he’s got to do. I control what I want to become, the type of person I want to be, and decide what I think is right. These are the examples I have shown to express my answers and thoughts of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote.

Montag and the other firemen arrive to his house. Beatty places him under arrest for having books in his house. Beatty discovered that Montag had a radio in his ear and told him that he will trace the other person on the other end. Montag was lectured by Beatty who kept shouting out quotes from books. He got angry and turned the flamethrower on Beatty and burned him to death. The Hound got him on the leg before it was destroyed by him and he hurried up to pick up the books he hid in the garden. Montag hobbled away down the street and placed a Seashell radio in his ear. The radio told the citizens to look out for Guy Montag, the fireman.

Faber’s thoughts

Faber says the society has changed ever since books were ordered to be destroyed. It was because homes were made to be fireproof, therefore there is no need for firemen but their jobs have been changed. People’s lives have altered. Their religious beliefs are gone. TV’s are setup in homes and people watch them all day long and it brainwashed them. It’s been so long that Christ is one of the “family” now.
Faber was one of the innocents that could have spoken out back in the day when no one trusted the guilty. Faber didn’t and became guilty himself. Faber didn’t try to stop the change because he was afraid and he was probably one of the few who wanted to stop the decision. I don’t think there was a choice, I believe their government is between dictatorship and communism, and that is why the people were scared to speak up.
Faber says he is not a religious man anymore but I think he wants to be his old self again. Montag is the guy who can help him do that. I believe the both of them will change the society back. Since Montag is interested in books, Faber can help him learn and understand what reading is about. He was a english professor back in the day so it should be no problem. Right now, Montag should gain knowledge and he will know how to think. He will wondering why something is done instead of how like Clarisse.
I think Faber will teach Montag and he will become a sage. Once Montag has reached that level, they are ready to attack the government with knowledge. Also they could show the citizens of the city what knowledge is about. Maybe Faber and Montag will hold a class to teach the citizens about reading and why books are important. They could turn the citizens against the government and take over themselves and create a brand new society where books are allowed. To me, books are as important in this timezone as the technology we treasure.
